Victory Road lived to her billing as the favourite when
she won the 1000 Guineas of Pakistan
Classic at the floodlit
Lahore Racing Club course on February 5, 2006.
The quality
filly from Re Play out of Coxswain was ridden by Shahid Rehman and is
trained by A B
Malik. Victory Road looked in absolute command
during the full course of 1600 metres as she took
the lead
for good with 300 metres to go and romped to a four lengths victory
over M Hanif-ridden
Trace Hit.
The excellent performance --
doing her Pakistan Derby credentials no harm -- by Victory Road was
a record equalling effort. She clocked one minute and 39.08
seconds to equal the record.
Decent Proposal finished third
while Key Guy Doll completed the frame among nine starters.
It
was also jockey Shahid Rehman\'s fourth victory in this prestigious
classic for fillies.
Earlier, Poly Dunit made her owner proud
by running an excellent race to win the 1400-metre Nero
Cup.
With M. Hanif in the saddle, Poly Dunit outclassed hot
favourite Alexander by three lengths.
Big Show, a bay filly
owned by Amjad Ali II and ridden by Shahid Rehman, took the Anarkali
Cup,
which was run over a distance of 1200
metres.
English colt Benzine proved the best in the TRM Cup
for imported thoroughbreds, beating Ponente
by four lengths.
Dixie Queen and Colonial Girl finished third and fourth
respectively.
M Hanif was the most successful rider on the
day, guiding four winners while Shahid Rehman
registered two
victories. Among the trainers, Haji Ghulam Sarwar and Sohail Aziz
sent out three
and two winners
respectively.
