Diamond Paints capture Punjab Polo Cup

Diamond Paints defeated Al Khan 12 ½-10 in the final to lift the Punjab Polo Cup at the Lahore Polo Club ground. Six-goal Guillermo Guitino of Argentina and Asif Tiwana, who slammed four of his own, out shone a brilliant performance by India\'s Dhruvpal Godara, who scored all his team\'s 10 goals.

Diamond Paints, who had a 1 1/2-goal handicap, enjoyed a 5 ½-3 lead at the conclusion of the action packed first chukker. Cuitino converted penalty hits from 40 and 60 yards respectively while Asif and Ahmed Ali Tiwana added one each for the winners. Godara led the lone battle for Al Khan with three goals, which were also hits from 60, 30 and spot penalties.

Cuitino found the target for his sixth personal goal while Asif completed his tally of four as Diamond Paints took a clear 12 ½-9 lead in the final chukker. Godara refused to give up and continued his effort to score and he was rewarded in the dying moments of the match but by that time it was a case of too little too late.

Meanwhile, Hissam Ali Hyder scored five goals while Faaiz Rahim Khan and Jot a Chavanne found the target thrice each to help Bank Alfalah defeat Lindt Chocolate 11-7 ½ in the subsidiary final and finish third in the tournament. Diego Araya was Lindt Chocolate\'s best player with six goals while Sufi Mohammad Hairs scored once for the losers, who had a ½ goal handicap.
